After the loss of Melissa and Mark Hortman’s beloved dog, Gilbert—trained by Helping Paws and later adopted into their family—his legacy became a light for others. The Shine On Gilbert bracelet was created in his honor, raising thousands of dollars to help place service dogs and change lives through greater independence, freedom, and quality of life.

Since June 14, 2025, Helping Paws and Embrace Our Souls have continued this meaningful journey together—turning love and loss into action and impact.
